It's time to pay tribute to the One-Winged Angel himself. Final Fantasy VII's infamous villain Sephiroth is joining the ranks of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the game's newest challenger.

Nintendo took the opportunity to make the announcement during this year's Game Awards ceremony, following a tease on Twitter to get fans pumped for the next addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Sephiroth is the latest character to join the ranks of DLC characters, following Min Min from ARMS and Steve/Alex from Minecraft.

While there weren't any specific details about what we can expect from Sephiroth as a fighter, his introductory clip featured what looked like his final form: Safer Sephiroth, complete with a knock-down, drag-out brawl with Cloud, who's already in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a playable character. The pair duked it out to Sephiroth's famous theme, "One-Winged Angel," a fitting entrance for one of the most famous Final Fantasy antagonists of all time.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's newest fighter will come as part of Fighters Pass Vol. 2 by Dec. 31, 2021. All six characters (including those that haven't been announced just yet) as well as new stages and music, will soon be revealed. Sephiroth follows a long line of characters from non-Nintendo franchises, like Persona 5's Joker, Dragon Quest's Hero, and Fatal Fury/The King of Fighters' Terry Bogard.

As is usually the case with new characters heading to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, we’ll likely be seeing a separate Nintendo Direct covering Sephiroth’s moveset and what to expect from him in the coming weeks before players can officially get their hands on him.
